Our DIY Cocoa Butter Lip Balm: A Simple, Nourishing Recipe
At Soaper’s Choice, we love empowering makers with simple, high-quality ingredients that elevate every creation. One of our favorite beginner-friendly projects is crafting a natural, moisturizing lip balm. With just a few ingredients and minimal equipment, you can create a smooth, nourishing chap stick.
Today we’re sharing a 1:2:3 recipe using cocoa butter, beeswax, and extra virgin olive oil. It’s an easy, effective formula perfect for personal use, gifts, or small-batch crafting.
Ingredients
For this lip balm, we use:
-
1 part cocoa butter
Adds a rich, comforting aroma and deep hydration. -
2 parts beeswax
Provides structure and keeps the balm firm at room temperature. -
3 parts extra virgin olive oil
Brings a silky glide and gentle nourishment to every application.
Scale the parts up or down depending on how many tubes or tins you want to make.
Instructions
-
Measure Your Ingredients
Using the 1–2–3 ratio, measure the cocoa butter, beeswax, and olive oil into a heat-safe container or double boiler. -
Melt to 160°F
Warm the mixture gently, stirring occasionally, until it reaches 160°F and everything is fully melted and uniform. -
Pour Into Containers
Once melted, we carefully pour the liquid balm into lip balm tubes, tins, or small jars. Work steadily—the mixture can begin firming up quickly. -
Allow to Cool
Let the filled containers sit undisturbed until fully solid, usually about 20–30 minutes. Once cooled, cap them—and they’re ready to use!
Why This Formula Works
Our 1:2:3 ratio creates a balanced balm that:
- Glides smoothly
- Feels moisturized, not greasy
- Holds its shape
- Has a natural hint of cocoa aroma
