Spring Refresh: Simple Topical Oils for a Well-Groomed Coat
As we head into spring—with longer walks, muddy paws, and shedding season in full swing—it’s a great time to refresh your pet’s grooming routine. A simple topical oil application can be a seasonal addition to regular brushing and bathing.
Spring Coat Care Ideas
If you’re incorporating oils into your grooming routine, here are several commonly used options for topical application:
Coconut Oil
Coconut oil can be warmed between your hands and lightly applied to the coat. Use a small amount and distribute evenly, focusing on areas that need extra attention. It can also be added in a small quantity to a diluted bath.
Sunflower Oil
Sunflower oil has a light texture that allows for easy application. Apply sparingly and brush through the coat to distribute evenly.
Flaxseed Oil
Flaxseed oil can be used in very small amounts and worked through the coat with your hands or a brush to ensure even coverage.
Paw Care for Spring Walks
With more outdoor time in the spring, paws may benefit from occasional conditioning. Shea butter can be massaged into clean, dry paw pads as part of a regular grooming routine.
Keep It Simple
When introducing any new product into your pet’s grooming routine, start with a small amount and observe how it works for your individual pet. Regular brushing and bathing remain the foundation of seasonal coat care.
